Is O1DMatch a sports agency or a law firm?
Neither. O1DMatch is a job-matching marketplace. We don't represent athletes commercially, and we don't provide legal advice. We connect talent with U.S. teams, promoters, sponsors, and other organizations — and we leave the legal and commercial sides to your immigration attorney and your agent.
Do I need an immigration attorney?
Yes. Once you've matched with a U.S. organization on O1DMatch, you'll work with an immigration attorney to prepare and file your petition. We can connect you with attorneys who specialize in sports immigration if you don't already have one.
Because the employer isn't the petitioner, they don't take on sponsorship liability, don't pay the filing fee, and don't have to manage the legal process. That structural difference is what makes the O-1 viable for employers who would never sponsor an H-1B.
Can my coach or support staff also use O1DMatch?
Yes. Coaches, trainers, and essential support staff are eligible for O-1, O-2, and P-1S pathways depending on the situation. They can build their own profiles or be added as part of an athlete's support team.
